At least six people, including three army members, have been killed in clashes between Indian and Pakistani forces on the Kashmir border. Several people were injured. The incident took place in Keran sector of the border on Friday.
Three Indian soldiers were killed and three others wounded in a shelling by Pakistani troops in the Keran sector of the border, AFP reported.
Police in Indian-administered Kashmir say three civilians were also killed in the attack. At least three people were seriously injured. One of them lost two of his legs.
This is the largest shelling in recent times between the two countries on the Kashmir border, AFP says. The Indian military is blaming Pakistan for the incident. The Indian military said in a statement that Pakistan had violated the ceasefire without any reason. Pakistan used mortars and other weapons in the attack. The statement further said that the counter-attack by the Indian Army had caused a lot of infrastructural damage and casualties to the Pakistan Army. Local villagers fled their homes due to fighting between the two countries’ armies.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has also admitted casualties in the Line of Control (LoC). However, they did not immediately mention the number of casualties. Five days after three Indian soldiers and three militants were killed in a skirmish on the Line of Control (LoC), India and Pakistan, two of South Asia’s nuclear rivals, are embroiled in a fierce battle today.
When India and Pakistan were born in 1947, Kashmir was divided into two parts. But both countries have been claiming the whole of Kashmir as their own. The two sides have been involved in three wars so far.
